Commonly known as the carnation, it is no surprise that this classic flower is one of the most popular ones in the world. Dianthus translates to ‘the flower of God’ and it has a traditional place in various national celebrations: the Dutch wear white carnations to commemorate World War II and it is also the flower of choice for Mother’s Day.
